Our office has a hybrid working environment with corporate employees working out of the corporate office and then the remote consultants. We use Zscaler as our firewall for our hosted solutions on Azure and AWS. We are also maintaining a Fortinet NGFW on-premise for our corporate staff. Zscaler is primarily tasked with protecting our hosted solutions on the cloud. We also route some outbound traffic from our corporate office via Zscaler to the internet. The primary reason we bought Zscaler is to allow remote consultants to connect into our secure services hosted online.
  • Zscaler completely moved away from the traditional firewall setup to a hosted firewall solution. We don't have to worry about the hardware failing or maintaining it as part of our service plan compared to our on-premise firewall. Zscaler has a lot of data centres across the world where they are maintaining their solutions so mobile consultants will always be close to one of their data centres.
  • Rolling out Zscaler solutions to our end customers' computers is actually pretty easy and hassle-free. As part of onboarding of new employees we can set up the Zscaler solution and push it to our end users' machines and get them connected to the cloud solutions.
  • Zscaler does proper market research on the latest emerging threats and they keep their firewall patched and updated to the latest versions so the security team does not have to worry about keeping the firewall updated.
  • My personal opinion about Zscaler is their idea is that all the services are online and are moving to the cloud but the truth is some of them have to stay on-premise and employees still need to work from an office. Zscaler simply doesn't have any on-premise solutions like an NGFW to provide a complete package. We are supporting Fortinet NGFW for our on-premise solution.
  • As mentioned earlier Zscaler being hosted online we don't get the full flexibility of managing our firewalls. Although it's a good thing we keep running into problems like when we want to allow list a service from a specific source IP Zscaler cannot provide a static IP for that. They route traffic through multiple IP addresses and the IP's keep changing every 15-20 minutes. So you cannot allow list a specific IP on the receiving end. The only way to move forward would be to allow an entire range of IP's which opens a security loophole on the receiving end.
  • For every small thing we have to keep opening a ticket with Zscaler. Their response rate is fast but still in a fast-moving world it's not fast enough. Especially since we need to get approval from our change control to get something done and then again we have to raise a ticket to get something done from the Zscaler side.
Zscaler is well suited if you have a work force which is 90-100% remote and you don't have to worry about any on-premise solution. In these cases all you have to do is set up your Zscaler and push credentials to your end users and they are good to go. Zscaler simply doesn't have any solutions if you have physical offices. This means you need to maintain separate firewalls (On-prem NGFW and Zscaler), separate contracts, separate points of contact and separate documentation and training.

In the Middle East region with strict data laws or countries where there is a law that critical network devices have to be maintained in the country this might not be the right solution as Zscaler doesn't have data centres in every country. Also some organisations like the government's compliance policy might not permit a solution like Zscaler because the security team does not have much control of the product.

Zscaler Internet Access is used company wide and of course it is helping to securely access the data from internet without compromising the security.
  • Safe Internet access.
  • Cloud based hence can be scaled up when required.
  • Customization with respect to the company requirements and IT policies.
  • Costing of course is one of the areas.
  • Sometime blocking the genuine access also.
  • Solution for small company required.
Zscaler Internet Access is suited very well where company is very big and distributed across the world and have lot of users in different part of the world accessing the net.
It is less appropriate for a small company and cost wise unviable for them if users are less.

Zscaler is used by our organization to secure our devices from internet content. This is being used by each and every department of our organization. It takes away the need of installing multiple applications to secure the workstations while interacting with the internet and simply replaces it with a Zscaler application that provides the capabilities of different applications via the cloud.
  • Since it's cloud-based, it's completely on-demand and scalable without any additional hardware required.
  • Deployment is fairly straightforward.
  • Customer support is prompt and tickets are resolved in a quick turnaround time.
  • Chat or email support is not available. Only option is to either call them or raise a ticket by logging into their website.
  • Pricing is not transparent and quote based.
  • Access to websites is a little too slow with Zscaler monitoring on.
Zscaler is suited for organizations where a lot of employees work remotely and need to access a lot of cloud-based applications. It enables an organization to filter out content and applications that don't adhere to policies. It provides a scalable on-demand solution with over 150 data centers to allow users to have low latency in connection.

Zscaler is being used for content filtering on out Internet. We have most everything going through Zscaler but we do have some workstations and servers that do not use Zscaler. We do hear some complaints from employees from time to time but security is a pain so it's normal.
  • Great at content filtering based on categories, countries, etc.
  • The sandbox feature of Zscaler is a huge plus.
  • Having the ability do decrypt SSL traffic works well.
  • Filtering through the logging can be a bit troublesome.
  • I can't remember the exact reason but we preferred to do an IPSEC tunnel back to Zscaler but instead had to use a GRE Tunnel
  • The reporting feature could use some improvement. Clean, clear reports would be nice.
As far as content filtering goes, Zscaler has met all of our needs. We feel that is doing the job well but we also feel like we could get more out of it. The ability for a downloaded file to be ran in a sandbox before delivering to the use is an awesome feature. The end user gets frustrated that they have to wait up to 10 minutes to receive their download but from a security standpoint it is working well.

Zscaler is being used by the whole organization. We are using it for security - internet security, firewall, web security, etc. Also used for vulnerability management of user activity happening in cloud computing. It helps to simplify administration, improves control and increase visibility. It also increase the user performance.
  • Improves visibility.
  • Provides security.
  • It does not support iOS and android yet.
It effortlessly scales to the traffic needs of users, including the hard-to-examine SSL. With this solution, businesses and its users are well-protected against security issues in the cloud.

As technology is evolving, so are the threats increasing day by day. Security is the first priority of an organization, leads us to use Zscaler Internet Access this fantastic product. Good security product. Reporting and managing are straightforward. Employees can work securely from remote locations. The use of the SSO technique is beneficial. The best feature I like is filtering and the scanning, which it does. Kudos!! to the team for bringing such a product in the market.
  • Reporting is easy
  • Easy to use
  • Few times turn on button does not work smoothly
  • Support needs to be improved
Zscaler Internet Access being on the cloud makes it the most desirable product to be used worldwide. Best suited for small scale industries. But, it can also be ideal for large scale industries.

Zscaler is being used as a transparent proxy to prevent users from exhausting the bandwidth resources. There are some implementations customized for mobile networks and wired networks, where we have certain needs for a variety of devices and require coverage of others. Not implemented for networks where behavior/anomaly-based analysis is required.
  • Reverse Proxy
  • Forward Proxy
  • Protection
  • Poor mgmt. capabilities
  • Not so flexible
  • Hard to segment
  • Hard to implement as fault tolerant
I think the Zscaler platform is pretty well suited for short-scale networks/architectures since is hard to segment and a single error could bring down operations in your company - we've had a couple of those. At some point, the lack of flexibility has forced the implementation to take a whitelisting approach rather than a blacklisting/behavior/anomaly approach.

Zscaler handles our web filtering, web usage tracking, bandwidth control, etc.... everything that allows us to control and visualize what's going on in and out of our network, primarily for Cyber Security. Reports are available to track usage and help determine possible reasons for gaps in productivity. Bandwidth controls allow users to still utilize other sites, such as Youtube, but ensure that the usage doesn't bog down the rest of the company.
  • DAS program helps ensure that you get set up properly the first time around.
  • Reports are easily customizable from minute details that you may want as IT to high-level overviews for executive presentations.
  • Lots of capability.
  • No email support -- you must open tickets through their website.
  • Some support technicians need more experience.
If you're looking to ramp up your Cyber Security operations, Zscaler is a must-see. Their demos are great and the implementation is fairly painless. DAS helps you to get it set up and ensure success.
